Re: [foxboro] FSIM as a replacement for the AW70X

Avoid FSIM if you can.

Poor product for development. We have a few FSIM boxes that we are using for
configuration development. The FSIM's are a constantly crashing and when ever
you deploy/download you have to pause the FSIM which freezes the control
(everything goes smurffed) (This really ticks off other engineering groups that
are trying to develop when the controllers are coming and going).

Poor support form Simsci they don't want to tell you anything like the
configuration & trouble shooting is a big secret (so they can nail you with
field service calls)

One good thing about FSIM are the loop back rules capability for faking I/O
however this is tricky to configure (but not impossible).

Oh yea another great thing it does is that it makes a great simulator because
this is what it is designed to do. It is a beautiful training tool. It records
operator actions and you can rewind/playback (back track) to show the operator
his mistakes. Has the ability to speed up/slow down time etc.

If you want a simulator then FSIM is the tool for the job.

If you want an engineering/development system take my advise and purchase real
CP's and do a little control configuration if you want loop backs.

Subject: [foxboro] FSIM as a replacement for the AW70X

Does any end user have experience in using FSIM as a replacement for a AW70X?
Given the pricing I have received for FSIM, although it may be a more
functional replacement, it doesn't seem like a practical one. It seems like it
would be cheaper to purchase a AW, switches and a CP270 and have the spares to
boot. I could probably also buy a car to drive it around. Perhaps I didn't use
the right verbiage when I requested the quote?
I had an opportunity to use FSIM a few years back. I liked it, but it is a lot
more than what I currently need for simple off-line training and development
(and priced accordingly).

It seems like the loss of the AW70x at v 8.x is a big one to the user
community, another backwards step?

Let me know if someone has had a different experience.
