Re: [foxboro] FCP's and "remote" I/O

Stan,
We have used the FCM2F2's with no problems. In mid April, at Ver
8.4.2, we will be using the new FEM100's mounted on a baseplate that is
connected to an FCP270 baseplate by a fieldbus, (HLDC), cable. There
are four additional ports on the FEM100 baseplate that allow connection
to four additional sets of four baseplates each, making it possible for
an FCP270 to connect to 128 remote FBM's, (maybe a few less).
In addition, the other HLDC fieldbus port will be connected to an
FBI100 baseplate that will be connected to existing Bailey Migration
cards, (or 100 series FBM's). In this way the FCP270's can now talk to
both 100 and 200 series FBM's and can host as many as the ZCP270's. The
only thing they don't do now that the ZCP270's can, is talk 100MB
Ethernet across their fieldbus ports, to I/O segments across the MESH
network.
This new arrangement for the FCP's does make it possible to put a
substantial load on an FCP, which was almost impossible prior to the new
features. Now you will have to pay attention to the load you put on
FCP270's. (Your results may vary).
As Russ and Alex mention, their are a significant number of ways you
can connect an FCP to fieldbus devices with many different fiber and
copper combinations. The FCP270 has finally arrived and is competitive
with the ZCP270.
Also at 8.4.2 the FCP's become self hosting, (CP boot host not
required, reboots from internal image stored in NVRAM). But that is an
entirely new thread that I may start in another email.
