Are you packing the information in the Controllogix into data files and then 
reading the data files via Ethernet communications?

If you do not pack the data and read contiguous bytes, the overhead load 
becomes very high, even with ethernet speeds. I had experience a few years ago 
where AW70 ethernet was reading/writing Contollogix and this same type of 
failure would occur from time to time. Since the writes are change driven, too 
many writes (not periodic) with your basic reads would lock up the 
communication.
