Re: [foxboro] FBM 10 with FBM 13 Extender

Brian,
I remember having a similar problem many years ago with two
different sets of extended FBM's but can't remember what the solution
was for sure. Take a very close look at all of the pins on primary and
extended FBM's. Even if they aren't bent, make sure they are long
enough and not pushed back into the modules. Also make sure that the
upper/lower fieldbus selector switch is in the right position if you are
using a two position Y adapter and that its pins are good. One of our
problems was the Y adapter was selected to upper FB, (arrow pointing
up), but the CP FB was connected to the lower FB. Also both must be in
the same Y adapter. If not using Y adapters, (FBM mounting structures),
the primary must be in an odd number slot, (1,3,5,7), with the extender
in the adjacent, even slot, (2,4,6,8). These things are likely ones you
already know but when things don't work I always double-check.
As I was typing I just remembered one of our problems was that we
always used Ladder Logic which needed ECB8 and SWTYPE 8?? but in this
case we had an ECB5 configured with a SWTYPE =8, or something like
that. Insure that your ECB and SWTYPE parameters exactly match an
extended pair of 10-13's that are working.
One other time we had a nosecone that was labeled on the terminal
block as an FBM13 but the info on the nosecone showed it was for a
different type of FBM.
I hope some part of this brain dump provides the solution. Let us
all know what it is when you figure it out.
