Re: [foxboro] Exposing Aliases in FoxDraw 9.0

I have never ported the xref utility to the 70 series platform. I will =
add
this to my free-time to-do list. Perhaps somebody "out there" in
Cassandra-Land has already done this, and will report back?

Since the utility is made up of Unix shell and awk scripts, I do not =
think
there would be much involved in the translation from 50 to 70 series.
If you do attempt the 50 to 70 series porting - I would recommend the =
free
cygwin package (www.cygwin.com) to make the AW70 Unix-like, and shy away
from nutcracker. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

Mark,

I had actually been to the Cassandra site and found your utility but =
after
reading the install.txt file, I came to the conclusion, perhaps =
mistakenly,
that it would not work for me as all the displays I am using are 70 =
series,
built with FoxDraw 9.0 without an AW51 in site. I suppose I could =
convert a
couple of the 70 series displays to 50 series, give it a whirl, and =
report
back. As far as you know, will your script run in nutcracker?

The free xref tool available on the Cassandra site will expand any =3D =
FoxDraw
aliases for you in its connection reports. I am not sure how well this =
tool
will work with FoxDraw ver 9...... it hasn't been tested against that
version yet.

Hi John,

The reason why you only see the alias names in the Foxview display is
because linked library objects or symbols are stored in another =3D =
graphical
file under /opt/customer/displib. In that graphical file you have to =3D
resolve the alias names to determine the real C:B.P value. A good help =
can
be =3D using the conversion tool (/usr/fox/wp/bin/tools/fdf_g and
/usr/fox/wp/bin/tools/sm1g) which converts the binary graph files into
textual ones with .g extension. I admit that reading this format is =3D =
tough,
for that I have created a graphical interface that separates the =3D =
structure
from the real data by using a 3-columns table layout.

I'm doing some short-term contract work for a systems integrator whose
customer has displays built in FoxDraw 9 and being displayed in FoxView =
=3D 9
. I was brought up in the old days of Display Builder and Display =3D
Configurator on AW/WP 51's when display work was harder but very
straightforward. The customer in question has displays that use linked
library objects and aliases. While I can see the individual aliases by
right clicking in FoxView, I have yet to figure out how to get d_edit to
show me the true C:B.P's for these objects instead of just C, B, and P =
as
alias names. =3D I've downloaded and read B0193WG, especially Appendix =
A on
d_edit but still haven't got it figured out.

I've been reading these posts for a long time and this is the first time =
=3D I
have ever put up one of my own. As my friend, Tom VandeWater has said,
there is an astounding amount of knowledge among the folks on this list. =
=3D
I hope someone can dribble a little of it in my direction.

Thanks!

John W. Smith
