I always thought that even though displays show being in the /usr
partition, they are actually in the /opt partition...

I think the intention of the /opt partition was for users to place their
displays, applications, etc in that area as there was more space.  This
came about when the 50 series was introduced if I remember correctly.=20

Have always used /usr for displays and overlays ...... haven't noticed
any problems. Anyone know why we shouldn't?

Check partion sizes , /opt is probably much larger than /usr=3D20
