The information is read from the file at reboot and placed in a shared
memory segment.


Net result, you can't change it on the fly; a reboot is required.

        While we are on the subject, does anybody know a way to evoke
changes in
        the "dmcfg" file without rebooting the box?
        Is there a process that you can grep for, kill, then restart?
