Re: [foxboro] Defunct process?

Duc

If I look at hist_srv process tree on one of our AWs
running legacy historian, I see the following:

1728 /opt/fox/hstorian/bin/hist_srv
  1758 /opt/informix/lib/sqlturbo root 5.10.UC1 AAC#B299908

This does not change when I start and stop the historian configurator.
When you make configuration changes to your legacy historina,
you are in fact making edits to an Informix database.
An open connection to Informix is implemented with the sqlturbo process.
It looks like hist_srv normally keeps an open connection to Informix.

On your system, it looks like the connection to Informix
is closing unexpectedly.
It also looks like hist_srv does not realize it until you start
the historian configurator.

Look for some evidence of what's going-on in the informix log files.
There are 3, star.log, sysinfx.log and online.log,
they are located in /var/tmp.
See if there are some error messages that could indicate what is happening.

Also check if you are not exceeding the maximum number of concurrent
informix users.
Tbmonitor will show you how many users are currently connected.
The tbconfig file, in /opt/informix/etc,
shows that the max number of concurrent users is limited to 40.

Good luck

I don't either, that's why I threw it out to the list.

No, not that I know of. But like I described earlier, if I removed the
zombie process, then enter and exit the historian configurator,
there'll be a new defunct process, also a child of hist_srv. Weird!

And as far as I know, the historians are functioning fine.

Thanks for weighing, although I'm no closer to finding out why.
