Re: [foxboro] DNBT Extension

The problem with extending the Ethernet port is that it does not extend the
serial connection used to switch between Nodebus A and B.

Worse yet, the serial connection is not really a serial connection. The
serial port is used as a set of parallel digital inputs and output contacts
that signal the DNBT when to switch.

Yet again worse, the DNBT looks like it merges the serial and Ethernet
connections, but it really does not. I simply runs the digital I/O over
unused wires in the standard 10Base-T cable.

The DNBX of course handles all of this wiring and signaling.

All in all, I think I'd look at X-Windows (Solaris WP) software on a PC or
NetMeeting (Windows WP) and leave the WP alone.

Subject: [foxboro] DNBT Extension

I need to connect a WP51E , 1Km away from a Nodebus temporarily.
I do not want to use DNBX . There are existing fiber optic cores
between these locations and I have ethernet to F.O tranceivers
installed at both ends. They are capable of distances upto 2Kms.
Can I extend the DNBT connection using this method ?

Is there any limitations/operational recommendation for extending
the DNBT connection ?
