Re: [foxboro] DATA LINK

Hi,

Here are some things to check:

1.) First install the server end on the AW according to the documentation.

2.) Then install the client on your PC according to the documentation.

3.) Then run 'Api Admin' on your PC. It is located in 'Programs | AimAT'.

4.) In Api Admin on the Settings tab, click on 'Edit Server Connection' and
add the letterbug and IP address of your AW. The IP address is for the
second ethernet port.

5.) Check that you can connect by selecting the server from the 'Settings'
tab. If you can't do this you may have a networking problem and will need
to get that sorted before you can proceed.

6.) Next select the Authorization tab and enter your authorization code for
AIM*Datalink.

7.) Next select the User Names tab and add a new user. This must be the
same name as you use to logon to Win98. It may also be case sensitive (It
definately is for WinNT).

8.) Then select the Packages tab. Expand your username and select "AIMDLK".

9.) Then select the Security tab. Expand your username and select the
permissions that you want.

10.) Then select the Read List tab and make sure that "ALL OBJECTS ARE
READABLE" for your username.

11.) Then select the Write List tab and make sure that "ALL OBJECTS ARE
WRITABLE" for your username.

12.) Finally under the Path Aliases tab select 50-Series for the Platform
(for AW51)

13.) Save these settings by clicking 'Apply' or 'Okay'.

14.) You should be able to start Aim Datalink. Click on the Server Status
button (6th from the left). If there are no messages there then the
connection is made and you can start using the wizard to browse stations,
blocks etc.

Most of the problems I have seen with Datalink / Data For Windows relate to
one of the following not being set up correctly:
   Network setup.
   Authorisation.
   User names.
   User Permissions.
