I don't think it does any more throttling that the any other
nodebus communications does. Solaris just seems to be far less
sensitive to heavy loads than NT. (thats not an endorsement of
copying over nodebus if 2nd port is available)
Our reasons for using rmount/cp/rumount have probably more to do
with our status as outside engineers, rather than end users.
First, we still run into systems with AP20s. This is the only
practical way to do this on AP20 systems, or mixed 20/50 systems.
Second, other system setup changes can get in the way of 'rcp'
operation (.profile edits, password changes, etc.). Implimentation
in a shop where a knowlegable resident engineer has changed any of
these things is simplified using rmount techniques.
In summary, the rmount (micro-rfs) system is at least consistant
among all of the Foxboro platforms.
By the way, the nut we haven't cracked is an elegant way to go
from 70 to 51 series; the required conversion at the target (51)
is difficult, in a standard system, to initiate from the NT.
In the 'learn something new every day' catagory, we are going have
to take a closer look at 'rdist'. Personally, I'd never heard of it.
Looking at the 'man' page (it IS in the standard AW51), it seems
like it could be quite usefull. Thanks to whoever mentioned it.
