Re: [foxboro] Copying Displays to remote workstations

Hi,

I'm one of those guess that used to maintain pdfpack, Dm, FoxDraw, etc in
SD&E, and I can
tell you that PDFPACK is not station dependent!
However.....
On WP10, WP20 and WP30, the display files are 16 bit records,
On 50 and 51 series they are 32 bit records.
On 50/51 series you may also install Wp30/20/10 display files (see pack50
and pack30 executables).

Assuming all the systems have the same I/A software release installed, and
assuming the display files are all 50/51 series displays, then you may
distribute the files. I recommend first to pack the files before
distributing them. Packing the files removes the OM optimized data (OM list
within the display file for quick OM connections). Once the file is
re-opened within the DM, the display file is re-optimized. It is
recommended not to have the file open in DM while installing a new file.
That the sum is not equal shouldn't matter (pdfpack contains a pack-count,
and every time you pack the display, the count is incremented. So this may
cause the different sums).

But... the standard I/A get_rem_file distribution tool should take care of
all the conversion that is required.

I did a checksum on a common display for 8 different workstations and they
were all different:

        64548 312 HC2_GAS_PLNT
        28532 312 HC2_GAS_PLNT
        1063 312 HC2_GAS_PLNT
        4720 312 HC2_GAS_PLNT
        23805 312 HC2_GAS_PLNT
        6406 312 HC2_GAS_PLNT
        9920 312 HC2_GAS_PLNT
        64818 312 HC2_GAS_PLNT

This suggests to me that they are station specific, although there may be
another reason that I can't think of. This is why I figure I have to run
pdfpack after they are copied.

Tod.
