Considering your application and the design of the GDEV block, I would
attempt to use it in the following ways:
1. From Sequence Block; - AUTO with AUTDSR input unconnected.
2. From Operator Control Room; - MANUAL with MANDSR as the input
from Display
3. From Plant Floor; use DISABLE input permanently connected from
field local switch.
Additional Notes:
There are 2 additional inputs; they are HOLD(HLDDSR) and interlock(INTDSR).
The HOLD input is used to drive the equipment to a safe state and it has
priority over AUTDSR. The safe state is determined by
HLDDSR(0-open,1-close,2-leave-as-is).
When the sequence stops running it should drive the GDEV to Manual (MANSW)
prior to INACTIVATing itself.
The INTDSR input is used interlocking this device with other devices.
The INTDSR input overrides MANDSR, AUTDSR, (HOLD)HLDDSR.
The DISABLE input overrides al other inputs (MANDSR, AUTDSR, HLDDSR,INTDSR)
There are 2 additional user parameters USERL1 and USERL2 which can be used
to assist in providing additional functionality. These parameters are yours
to use any which way you like.
Does this help?
If this does not provide all the functionality required, then you will need
assistance from CALC/SEQ block as you are probably already doing.

Subject: [foxboro] Control of Switchgear
Hello everyone.
We currently have an issue on site with the control of our HV breakers.
The existing configuration uses a GDEV and CALC block combination for
operating the switches, but this has limitations. In particular, we need the
breakers to be controlled from...
a) a sequence
b) an Operator (from the Control Room when the breaker is
selected to "Remote")
c) an Operator (from the switch itself when it is selected
to "Local")
Just now the GDEV is held in manual, which results in a State Alarm every
time we switch locally - not ideal.
My main question is how do you guys control switchgear? How do you manage to
switch from any of the 3 locations mentioned above?
