Hi Dimitris,
I use Norton ghost to back up all my workstations. I use ver 7.0 on NT
,(AW-SCSI & WP IDE) and Server 70 stations. We installed a second hard
drive in each station.I then ghost from the primary drive to the second
drive. The second drive is set up as a FAT format so ghost will
recognize it as a destination drive. Then using a "disk to file backup"
a image is created on the second drive that is a perfect image of the
primary. When the system is rebooted into IA I then use a batch file on
a server to determine if the date/time is different and copy it if it
is.This batch runs weekly and automatically thru the second ethernet
port. This creates a 'library' of all my machines which I can now burn
to cd for restoration on another machine, extract files using ghost
explorer, and backup to tape when the server does its automatic backup.
The only thing I need to do is insert a disk and reboot the machine so
ghost runs once in a while. Not fully automatic, but very effective.=20
Also I have used the backup to restore a different machine identical to
a failed machine, IE...an offline spare which will work for any one of
the same type. (scci/ide) Basically having only to restore the hard disk
image, and plug it in.=20
Anyone else have sugestions?

Subject: [foxboro] Change Workstation Name
Hello and merry Christmas to everybody.
I have a small question for you all.
Is it possible to have a pre-configured workstation as backup and
whenever another workstation fails for any reason, to change its name
and RCNI letterbug and insert it in the network.
For example:
Let's say that we have a WP60 with name WP0001 and an RCNI connected to
this workstaton with the same letterbug, of course. Let's say that we
also have another WP60 with the name WP0003.
The question is, can we remove WP0001 computer from its place and then
connect to the RCNI (with letterbug WP0001) the other computer having
modified its name from WP0003 to WP0001?
I tried it once but it didn't work. Is there any way to make this
happen?
Does anyone of you have any spare workstations? If yes how is it
configured and how muck "ready" is this workstation to be connected to
the network?
Have anyone ever tried to work with the Norton Ghost on a fully
functional workstation that uses SCSI hard disk? If yes did it work I
tried to ghost a workstation but i get the Blue Screen.. many problems
with ghost..
Thank you all and wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Dimitris
