We run a software called Visual Alert from 2TSI (WWW.2TSI.COM) on an old PC
to capture all alarms (process and system ) from the I/A. To set it up, we
unplugged the printer cable from the line printer on the I/A (via
commprocessor) and plugged it to the com port on an old PC. The challenge
is to get the pin out correct before plugging it to the com port. After
that, we start the Visual Alert and it starts capturing system and process
alarms from I/A. The software will create a new alarm file every day so we
can archive them as needed. The cost of printer paper and printer
ribbons, and the problem of paper jammed outweighs the cost of the
software.

Can process alarms be directed somewhere (say a script),
other than a physical printer?
I'm thinking of sending them to netcat, so I capture them on
another machine WO having to keep commprocessors happy.
