Chris,

No smurfing or "blue flu".
Next time it happens, I'll check the sysmon errors.
Up until now, when ever it happens I run around in circles, until I get it
running again.

Two possibilities come to mind,
What is the available memory in the CP? If the allocation process causes added
connections from AW to CP, it is conceivable you could run into memory
constraints as the new OM lists are built. If this is the case, however, I
expect you might also be seeing smurfs on displays, particularly as pages are
being called up.
Also, there are some communications errors which will cause hang-ups between
one station and another, and clear when one of the stations is booted. Look at
the error counters in System Management for both the CP and the AW involved.

We are running I/A batch 5.3 (unix) also. Sometimes, the batch engine cannot
allocate the units. When this happens, the only way I can get it to work is to
reboot the CP, not something you like doing on a running plant.
We are in the process of deciding if we want to upgrade to the MESH and IEE
with ZP70's or switch to Delta V or Honeywell or Siemens. (We're looking at all
4 options) Hopefully we/I won't have to deal with this to much longer

Ken,
Two categories of overruns.
OM overruns and Compound processor overuuns.
5 compound processor overruns a day is not that bad.
Maybe you can explain the problem(s) that you are having.

Scott

Yep, have a lot of sequence blocks, this CP controls a batching reactor.
I average around 5 overruns per day.

Ken,
The real answer for overloading is the over-run counter STATION.CUMOVR on the
station display. If it is counting, you are overloaded.
The numbers below are an average for 10 BPC's or 5 seconds (default 1/2 second
BPC). If you open the Control overlay, you will see the actual loading for
blocks in each phase. Look for spikes.
Sequence blocks can be non-periodic and therefore your CP40 may only overload
when the sequence blocks run.

Hey List,
Got a quick question, I'm sure there is a reference document that contains what
I'm looking for, but I don't know it.
I have FT CP40A that is giving me a few problems, I suspect it's do to
overloading, but I don't know what the recommended loading is.
Looking at the station block I have:
Field Bus Scan: 41.0
Cont Blks: 7.0
Seq Blks: 22.0
Total Control Cycle: 70.0
OM Scan: 6.0
Idle time: 61.5
Total control Cycle (% of BPC) varies from 64 to 78.
How overloaded am I?
thanks,
Ken Moore
