Re: [foxboro] CP UPLOADS

Jim,
I am very interested in answers to your question especially if you
are using IACC. If using ICC there is an ICC driver task function that
can be executed from a script that you can schedule using cron or
Windows scheduler. I know for a fact that Duc Do has the exact syntax
for the UPLOAD command at the tip of his fingers if he is at work
today. Duc, would you post it for all to see? He has created an
UPLOAD, SHRINK, CHECKPOINT, SAVEALL script that he runs weekly using cron.
If using IACC I don't know of a way to upload into the IACC database
automatically. I am very interested to know if that is possible because
the manual upload of a CP in IACC takes even longer than the ICC upload
did. (a few hours). Alex or Russ could you let us know how that happens
and whether it is possible to automate the process? Many Thanks!
The uploads need to be done in order to capture changes made from
setpars, DM or Foxview windows, or other applications that can change
parameter values outside of the configurators. These can be very
important parameters such as tuning and alarm setting changes that you
wouldn't want to inadvertently lose. If your CP ever crashed and your
checkpoint file was corrupt the only choice you would have is to
initialize and reload your CP from a saveall or the IACC database. If
an upload had never been done all of the changes made outside of IACC or
ICC would be lost at that time. This scenario is infrequent but I have
experienced it on more than one occasion.
The ICC application uses .O files to display compounds and blocks
and then reads the data stored in the .wf, (workfile), when you choose
to edit a compound or blocks' parameters. The .wf file is found in
/usr/fox/ciocfg/URCPLB directory. When you use the ICC driver task
UPLOAD it reads parameter values directly from the CP and writes them
into the .wf (workfile). The next time you edit Compound or Block
parameters you will be looking at the exact value that is running in the
CP. It is important to understand how the UPLOAD executes because it
writes new values to the workfile but never deletes the old values until
a SHRINK is performed. This means that the workfile will continue to
grow in size each time an UPLOAD is performed and it can get REALLY big
if you never SHRINK it. I am not in tune with how the IACC database
files are UPLOADed or where they are stored. Does IACC actually use the
information found in the .wf workfile? Alex or Russ may be able to
enlighten us on that point.
