Couldn't you just purchase the Informix Devolpment
Package for V7.x and put esql on the server?

I'm not implying to overwrite the online version of
informix, just put the (licensed) development tools on
the server.  I would think the "development package"
esql would work with the online version of Informix.

perhaps I'm simplifying the issue?
