Re: [foxboro] Bus Technologies

Hi All

We decided to be "brave" at one of our older mills and stared implementing
Profibus with AB remote I/o through the 3170pdp communication module.

It stated of easy "installing and getting the prosoft module online" there
after our nightmare started. Being the first to use Foxboro and Profibus
products in South Africa didn't help much as most of the vendors did not tried
this before.

Using Commuwin and my laptop with a prosoft card worked well but I could not
say the same after connecting the Profibus node to the Micro.

We had units hanging , not responding and failing all offer. Major bus
instability "still".
Power and grounding differences between vendor "experts" and foxboro
documentation.

We had vendors blaming the Micro and host. After playing with the magnitude of
Profibus parameters with little guide lines and help we got the bus going and
have small hiccups now after being four months late with hot commissioning.

Would I like to do it agin? NO! Foxboro filedbus / FBM's are stable and works
first time. Support over different platforms and products is a problem even if
all is Profibus certified.
