Re: [foxboro] Browser Based HMI

David,
First I want to thank you for keeping the list informed about the
User's Conference. That was appreciated by many of us. Secondly, the guys
here at work want me to clarify that I am not really a Kentuckian but a
Hoosier that works in Kentucky. Actually I was born in Illinois. Hoosier
is really a double contraction for "who is here". When somebody knocks on
the front door in Indiana we yell "Hoosier" to find out who it is. When I
get a flat on my car in Kentucky and go to get a new one I need to make sure
to ask for a "tar" because they don't understand if I say tire. Like Ales,
I may be able to consider myself tri-lingual and Kentuckian is my third
language.
On a more serious note, if by source forge, you mean trying to
coordinate development of a browser based HMI that is built via
collaboration from parties spread across multiple continents, then I think
it sounds intriguing and, in our cyber world, not impossible. But, I think,
other than Bo, we all still have day jobs so it would be "catch as catch
can" progress. If we took a stab at it we would 1st have to be visionary in
deciding what pieces of technology are likely to be supported in the long
run as "open source" solutions. There are many possibilities today and some
have gained worldwide acceptance. Java, JavaScript, PHP, SVG, PNG, MNG,
Flash, HTML have already been mentioned as building blocks for such an
endeavor.
If we didn't do anything more than inspire Foxboro/Wonderware to
develop an HMI that could be used on Solaris, Linux, Windows, etc.... it
would be a worthwhile endeavor but it could develop into much more than
that. At this point the Invensys HMI work is undoubtedly going to be
designed, in and for, an all Microsoft environment. At least they have told
us their intentions. Thanks for that Alex. If enough users want something
else they will have to look elsewhere or develop it themselves and that is
where we find ourselves today. We are approaching a cross road and need to
decide which way to turn. There won't be a straight-ahead option.

Cheers,

Tom,

Even though you are from Kentucky, your English is very good, and mostly
understandable. Keep working on it, and you will be fluent someday.

Anyone want to try to sourceforge one/all of these HMIs?
