Actually the associated plant area was under normal shutdown. There was
no activity on the DCS side. No one was editing the stations or plugging
new one. I will look into the "dump" directory and see if there is any
thing that may help us. Thanks Russ.=20

Sytem Monitor messages are key ...and the dump file that was created
provided no one interrupted the dumo process.
/usr/fox/sysmgm/softmger/dump
Look for letterbug refernces. With .1 .1 .3 ...etc.

Also, besides was someone editing the CP at the the time, did anyone
plug a new station into the system that may have caused a duplicate Mac
Address.

We had the same problem not to long ago.

I would strongly advise you to call in Foxboro technical support.
I believe they have a standard procedure for handling this type of
problem.
There is a lot of information they will need which they can gather with
special tools.

One of the important questions in their procedure is:
Was the CP at the time of the incident being modified?

We known out of experience that you can stress a CP up to the point of
failing (both) by excessive OM calls, e.g. opening and closing OM lists
continuously at a high rate (depending on the CP image version).

However, first thing to do is to check the system manager messages!
