Re: [foxboro] ArchestrA related question

Those are some excellent questions for discussion.

- Is it worth moving to AIM*AT when Isql is available in a few years?

My opinion from using AIM*AT is that it would be worth it, assuming
your company is willing to pay for the license fees, of course, and you
already have NT on your desktops. This is from the perspective of someone
who has to install, maintain, and configure the historian. All of this is
MUCH easier with AIM*AT. The fact that you can add points without shutting
it down is enough for me. Again, you'll have to evaluate these sorts of
"soft" advantages vs. the cost for your organization.

- We still use the DM as Human Interface : is it worth the trouble
moving to FoxView ? Will Foxview be compatible with the new HI of ArchestrA
?

Here again, in my opinion the advantages are all in ease of use,
configuration and other "soft" attributes, so it might be a hard sell. And
people can get so touchy about graphics! If your old graphics work, and you
don't create a lot of new ones or make lots of additions to your existing
ones, it may be easier to just keep them. What I remember Invensys saying
in Orlando is that FoxView will not be developed beyond version 7.0, but
FoxView will always be supported, kind of like DM is now. Please correct me
if I'm wrong on that! If that is true, and you go to FoxView, you may be
stuck at FoxView 7.0 for a long time until you want to switch to the
Wonderware-based graphics that will be coming out eventually. But if you do
add lots of graphics and make lots of changes, FoxView will definitely
improve your productivity by leaps and bounds in the short term, and it
looks a lot better than DM. But converting DM to FV is not always
trivial...tough call.

- Same issue with IACC !

IACC will only work with version 6.4 CP's and above (again, faulty memory.
True?). If you can't upgrade to that version on your CP's anytime soon,
there really is no issue. Is there another Invensys product that is an
alternative to ICC and IACC? I wasn't aware of any. You may want to look
into FeedForward, Inc.'s RCCS on the FeedForward web site,
http://www.feedforward.com/downloads/rccs.tar
<http://www.feedforward.com/downloads/rccs.tar> (a link is on the Cassandra
site also). It's a great Windows graphical interface to the ICC. It's no
IACC, but it does allow you to use the ICC from your desktop. Use at your
own risk, as always.

        Hi list,

Interesting discussion but besides the issue of the SUN-stations we
have some
other problems to be adressed :

        - We still have the Legacy Historian for the operators : Is it worth
moving to
AIM*AT when Isql is available in a few years ?
        - We still use the DM as Human Interface : is it worth the trouble
moving to
FoxView ? Will Foxview be compatible with the new HI of ArchestrA ?
        - Same issue with IACC !
