I am an old fart, 66 years old.  BOTH symbols and faceplates have been around
at least since 1984 on systems such as Bailey Net 90 and Foxboro SMS.  I/A had
both in 1987.  Foxview had both from the beginning.  Faceplates CAN BE super
flexible.  For instance using a CALC block for VFD motor control complete with
speed setpoint, speed and current feedback, manual start/stop, auto start,
start permissives, trip interlocks, etc.  A single custom faceplate can be
created that displays all of the above functionality.  Boolean outputs can
drive associated alarm blocks, etc.

Hi.

Symbols did not exist in the very beginning of FoxView.

Use Symbols if you like.

Andreas

Hello dear list,  I have some companies having only Symbols, but some only
have Faceplates.  I never liked the Faceplates as they are unflexible.
What is the benefit of Faceplates and why do they exist? Perhaps it is a
historic thing I am not aware of?  best regards Baumgartner
