Re: [foxboro] Alternative to tapes for backing up P79 and P81 machines.

We are looking at hard disk backup, with the current crop of large, cheap
external USB drives. On a P81 a USB hard disk should be plug and play (it
works on our AW51G; it's a feature in Solaris 8 and higher). On earlier
boxes, we are thinking of hanging the drive off of a nearby PC and backing
up over the 2nd ethernet.

I did this with a laptop last year before a hurricane, and it worked well.

I'm sleep deprived; it's my only excuse.

The backup tool that I mentioned is Windows only. =

Sorry to get your hopes up for a Solaris solution. I really blew it.

I don't have the details at this time, but the person who makes the
announcements has the material so it should happen very shortly.

Hi Alex

Anton actually works with me at Century and we wondering because it took
almost 5 1/2 hours to do a restore on a P81.

We are scheduled to announce a new backup solution this week +/- a few
days.

I'll post it here when I see the announcement is publically released
since the topic is popular. =3D3D3D

Dear all,

Does an alternative exist to using tapes as the backup medium for P79
and P81 boxes running solaris?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards
Anton
