Re: [foxboro] (Alarm ACK Button) Horn Silencing Button

Any other ideas on silencing the alarm horns on Unix workstations
without annunciator panels or hardwired button?

We are using Unix workstations only in the control room.
I've tried and the F10 key does not silence the horn.

Cheers,
George

Also, try the F10 key to see if it silences the horn. It did on the old
PWs,
maybe it still does.

If you are using Windows and have a clever programmer, you could write
a
program that monitors the function keys and silences the horn.

Heck, someone "out there" probably has one. :)

Yes... I meant silencing the horns.

Our operators would prefer to avoid using the mouse too often.
Therefore the menus or display pickbox options have not been
considered..

That is why I am looking into a keyboard button solution for that.
The next option will be a CIN block and hardwired button on the
panel...

Thanks,
George

George,

When you write "The single usage of them right now is acknowledging
Process
ans System Alarms.", do you really mean silence the horn?

Silencing the horn is a different thing than Acknowledging an alarm.

If what you want to do is silence the horn, you can write a script to
do
that and make it a pick from a graphic or the menus. See the horns
command
in B0193DF.

Also, clicking on the ALARM button will silence the horns.

If what you want to do is acknowledge an alarm, there are DM commands
to do
that as well.

Subject: [foxboro] Alarm ACK Button

Hello List,

I have been a reader since the Oct. 2005 Cassandra discussion in
Houston. Nice to get to know people like John, Alex, Duc, Jeremy and
all
present that long evening. Now I am a writer too...

We are looking into getting rid of Annunciator panels for the I/A Unix
Stations. The single usage of them right now is acknowledging Process
ans System Alarms. Operators would agree to throw them away, if we can
find a similar way of acknowledging alarms... One idea that has come
up
was to program some alphanumeric keyboard buttons for that (i.e. Esc
button, or F1 button, etc). Foxboro has answered that the single way
would be a hardwired button. I am trying to avoid this and find
something simpler and more elegant. I know you can just click the
mouse
on the Process button on the FoxView graphics to acknowledge the
process
alarm. But the pointer is moving and the click could be mistakenly on
the wrong field, etc, etc.

Can anybody help or has a solution to this?

Regards,
