I forgot to add that you can get a better view of the road map from talking to
your CSE / account representative. He/she can put you in touch with the TSC who
really knows this software - Vern Gubler.

Re: Alex may give us insight on Aim*'s future?

There are no immediate plans to withdraw AIM*, but there aren't a lot of
enhancements planned either.

Eventually - some years from now, InFusion Historian will completely replace
AIM*, but it's not yet a "drop-in" replacement.

For example, InFusion Historian does not store alarm messages - a separate tool
does that - and can't support the Alarm History Display - the other tool can't
either.

On the other hand, its reporting tools are much better - ActiveFactory and
Wonderware Information Server offer a lot of benefits relative to what AIM*
tools do.

Does this help?

Thanks, Patrick. Our concern is the obsolescence of Aim* as well as its lack
of "user friendliness", hence the thought of upgrading it. I am wondering what
I/A customers use. Alex may give us insight on Aim*'s future?

Hi André ,

This is an standard feature for AIM.

real time points are stored as rxxx.fdb files (process data)
messages are stored as mxxx.fdb files (OAJ, SYSMON and ALARMS).
xxx represent the file number.

As they are stored as an mxxx.fdb file instead of a rxxx.fdb file, you can
restore or back-up them as required.

But you have to configure it (normally a sample of message file is located
under /opt/aim/examples/messages.imp)
Hope this helps.
