It's always nice to feel helpful.
The binary xpdf from the site is compiled under Solaris 8 (64bit AW51G
style)
The relocation error you get is a C-function (fopen64) for 64 bit stations.

To use XPDF on AW51B,AW51D or AW51E you have to compile the source code
yourself.
Try the following steps : (Maybe it looks difficult, but once done you will
get the real taste of it!!)

1. Download a recent GCC compiler from http://www.sunfreeware.com On this
site you find lots of open source tools. On the top right you can select the
right type of Operating System. AW51D has Solaris SPARC  Version 2.5.1
Download the binary version of GCC, next gunzip the <download file> (PS: If
you have not yet gunzip, you need to download this first from the same site)
The next step is to execute pkgadd -d <name of download file>
After this you need to extend the PATH en LD_LIBRARY_PATH variables.
If using the shell /bin/sh
>> PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin
>> export PATH
>> LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
>> export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

2. Download and install the following solaris packages :
jpeg,zlib,libiconv,tiff-3.7.1,t1lib,freetype from www.sunfreeware.com/
(SPARC2.5)
Installation is done by first gunzip and next pkgadd -d <package name>
All packages are normally installed under /usr/local and does not interfere
with the Foxboro system.

3. Download the XPDF source file: http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html
gunzip this download file and next untar it with tar xvf <download file
without .gz>
4. Change directory to the newly extracted source dir
5. Start the compilation (Read the INSTALL file for more detailed info)
> ./configure
> make
> make install

Finally you can try /usr/local/bin/xpdf and enjoy the result.

Next week I'll try out the above on an AW51E(same Solaris 2.5 version) for
one of our clients.

Thank you for your advice: I tried xpdf and it works fine on AW51G but =
fails to start on AW51D's (I/A version 6.5.1, 128MB RAM). I get the =
following message:

ld.so.1: xpdf: fatal: relocation error: file xpdf: symbol fopen64: =
referenced symbol not found

It seems to be a problem with a library (libc.so.1 maybe?), but I don't =
want to mess up with that. If you have any suggestions, they are =
welcomed.

Hi,

The problem is based to the color memory map of the system.
The Foxboro Display manager or (Foxview) allocates the first color =
numbers and replaces them with the Foxboro color panel.

If you are looking for just a basic PFD viewer without any fancy things =
try the open source XPDF.
I'm sure you'll get better results.

    We had a somewhat similar problem with Acrobat Reader colors on our =
AW51's.  It occurred when we launched Netscape first, and then picked on =
a pdf pick, which then launched Acrobat.  As it turned out, Netscape =
grabbed all the remaining colors, so Acrobat didn't have much left to =
work with.  To fix the problem, we made up a Netscape startup script =
that launches Acrobat first.  This fixed the color problem for us.
