William,
Glad to hear that this has been implemented before, and by using
standard Foxboro commands and interfaces. While the Solaris 2.6 version
of Foxboro's application is currently in use at this site, I'd like to
speak with you more about what was done on your series 70s. Would it be
possible to contact you directly?

Subject: Re: [foxboro] Access Controls for Foxboro WP's
We did exactly this some time ago, on 70 series WPs.
The badges are read by a Visual Basic program, which also keeps the
data base of card number/operator. On reading and validating the
card, that VB program sends a 'pref' to the FoxViews running on the=20
WP to change to the appropriate environment. These environment files
are kept in a directory away from the standard files, so they don't
show to the Change Environment pick. They are otherwise standard
files, with the usual access control settings.
The standard environment is was reduced to only the initial environment
so that all login operations are via the card system.
Also by VB was a facility to maintain the card/environment data base,
and it updated all file sets on the various WPs whenever a change to
the data base occurred.
Certainly this is a viable way of logging into a WP.
