Re: [foxboro] AW51D Box at Ver 6.5.2 (Two Problems)

Dale,
Could you try vmstat 2 which should report system resources every 2
seconds. Ignore the first line that prints out. (Control C to exit the program)
The far right is processor idle time. See what it is before you invoke
snapshot and then for the 20-30 seconds it takes to start. You may want to
print out the "man vmstat" results so that you know what each column represents.

Also pay close attention to the memory usage. Try swap -s to see how much
virtual memory you have on the computer. The guidelines say swap space (page
space in Microsoft world) should be 2-3 times your RAM. But this guidline could
be low if you have a lot of programs running on this AW. You might need swap
4-5 times RAM. The swap -s will let you know if you are running low on swap
space. Perhaps keep a second VT-100 open so that you can issue the swap -s
command as the snapshot program tries to start up.

The B0193ND manual will tell you how to increase swap space if you need more.

Regards,

Terry

I've done as you said and still I'm unable to get anywhere with this. The
memory looks fine and passes all self tests in fourth tool kit mode. The /opt
partition is 87% full but has been since this box went in in 1997 due to the
Historian being full and always worked fine.

Any more info would be great

PS Problem #2 went mysteriously disappeared.
