Re: [foxboro] AW51B boot problem

Hi Cyrus,

Try ctrl-c during boot and see if it continues booting up normally. There
is an ancient HH on this but I don't know what number it is. In our case we
get a message about retrying something or another over and over again until
we control-c.

When we crash an aw or wp sometimes it does not find a file containing its
host id on reboot, and control-c causes it to "skip" over that part of the
startup script and look directly to the letterbug for the id. The file gets
recreated and future re-boots should work fine.

We also have a Sun xterminal that lost its battery and we have to stop-a
it and type the net boot host number into it manually.

  Old computers . . . good times!

Subject: [foxboro] AW51B boot problem

I am having a problem getting the AW51B, ver. 6.1, on my ESSCOR simulator=

to boot. It has the following messages:

Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet
Lost carrier (transceiver cable problem?)
Cable problem or twisted pair hub link-test disabled

Typing 'test net' at the ok prompt showed that the AUI ethernet port was
functioning properly but the TPE port failed the external loopback test. =

The AUI port is the second ethernet port to a plant lan, and the TPE port=

goes to the DNBI. I have checked cables and see no obvious problems. =

There appear to be two connectors available for the TPE port. One is som=
e
kind of a Sun specific connector and the other is the standard twisted pa=
ir
type of connector. The DNBI cable is connected to the Sun connector. If=
 I
connect the plant lan cable to the twisted pair connector and rerun the
test net, the TPE port shows good. The AW module in the DNBI rack has a
green light on it but that's about all I know about it. Any ideas on oth=
er
things I might check to figure out where this problem is? Thanks for any=

help.
