Re: [foxboro] AW: SavelAll Error

Thanks all for the responses,

Actually I have rebooted the station three times and that did not fix
the problem. Thanks Ali and Shelby.

Marcel, I may try this, the problems is that I have a system with hug
number of nodes. So I may consider only saving to an empty directory.
Thanks pal.

Walter, I will try that one. It looks interesting. Thanks friend.

Ron, I tried the command line only to recover from the ICC error and it
did not work. I will try definitely the "save_all.sh" script. Based on
experience we found the floppy to be more save and reliable as we store
them on a secure safe cabinet and actually we used to use floppy and it
is very hard to break this habit. I have almost three people carrying
the backup so the amount of coffee is still within the threshold :). I
will use also "newfs". Thanks pal.

Patrick, we are conducting a system backup quarterly. We backup the
CP's, GW's and workstations "AP's , WP's and AW's". I would like to
thank you for prompting the OFHAII backup software I will look into it.
Thanks pal.

Duc, great thanks friend. I will try Marcel's suggestion.

Regards,
Waleed

From a save_all script maintainer: Thank you Walter.

From what I understand from the initial post. You are trying to do a
commandline save_all to a floppy?
We have not been very lucky getting this to work unattended, although we
did
get it working. As far as I remember we ended up with a lot of files in
the
"root" filesystem which we found unacceptable. So we abandoned this
route.

The save_all util found in /opt/fox/ciocfg/api will take 2 parameters
one of
them is the Station and the other is the path_to_store_the_saveall.
The Save_all scripts found on Cassandra are to my knowledge using that
api
utility. I know for sure that ours is. (save_all.sh)

Check that as a first attempt.

Secondly if you insist on writing to a floppy:
When you format a floppy from the commandline, you will need to do a
"newfs"
on it afterwards and delete the lost+found directory on it too when
completed. (every directory shows up as a compound, that is why)

From the ICC a save_all with format will (slowly though) take care of
that
for you. However when doing a save_all for about a hundred CP's will
make
you sick from the large amount of coffee you will consume out of
boredom.

Hope this helps

Why don't you use the save-all script.
http://www.thecassandraproject.org/archive/save_all.html

Since I have installed it I haven't made a single save-all on floppy. =
When you run it more then once, you even get a compressed backup file of
=
the last save-all you made.

Hi,

>Please any advice?=3D20

Save to some empta directory on your hard disk and copy saved files to
floppy in a second step. This should work then. However, I have no
explanation for the phenomenon you're seeing, actually I never tried to
perform a save all directly to floppy because it often happens that the

save
all files do not fit on one diskette (when using sequence blocks
intensively, which I often do).
