Re: [foxboro] ATS

We, too, have a V8 system recently connected to a V6.3 system
running like a top. Both are 70 series, and IA Batch. The
configuration is running with the two nodes linked together
for about a week now, and is in final testinng before shipment
to the site. (I can't claim credit for making it work. My
fellows in the office did that) There were module and
software upgrades since Foxboro shipped it to us, but these
were in before we actually hooked the nodes together. It went
rather smoothly.

Two things of note on this. Among us guys in the office, we
see the handheld letterbug config tool as a step backwards.
Just picture the poor maintenance guy, three or four years
from now trying to replace, say, a CP that failed at three
in the morning. He pulls one from spares, now he has to find
the handheld unit that may not have been used for years. Is
the battery gone flat? Has somebody lost it? ... and so forth.

I think the hard letterbug shorting pin arrangement is much more
user friendly.

Second, our ATS modules connect to mesh with fiber optic cables.
The ATS has a little switch on it to select fiber or copper
connections. The location of the switch is such that when the
lower fiber was plugged in, ever so slight missalignment while
pushing it in place switched the unit from a fiber cable
configuration to a copper cable configuration. It took our guy
hours to find that one. It would be nice to see that switch
sitting somewhere else.
