Re: [foxboro] AIM problems

AIM is licensed by hostid. When you change machines, you have a new
hostid and will need to re-license the AIM package for the new machine.
The AIM control panel will give you the hostid of the machine. With
that, you call Foxboro CSC and they will put you in touch with a person
that will issue a new license key.

I believe that if you move AIM* from one machine to another that you
will have to call Foxboro and new licenses. I think it have something to
do with MAC address. At least anytime that we have changed boxes we had
to get new licenses.

As long as the AIM historian name stays the same copying the
/opt/aim/inst/<HISTNAME> directory to the other machine should be
enough. Assuming that the platform is the same. I never tried moving an
AIM database from unix to windows or vice-versa.=3D20

Changing the AIM historian name is probably a bad idea, since the name
is used in several places inside the configuration files.=3D20

If you just want to move your existing AIM database to a new or
re-installed HD all that is needed is a backup of the
/opt/aim/inst/<HISTNAME> directory. That directory contains all the
point configuration and database info that AIM needs.

So the steps to take after re-installing the AW are:
1: install AIM,
2: put the an_init.* and aimapi.cfg files back in /opt/aim/bin (these
contain license info and api tuning),
3: put the /opt/aim/inst/<HISTNAME> directory back from a backup tape,
4: check in the AIM histmanager to automatically start on reboot and
reboot the machine.
