With DataLink you can save queries made with Historian Browser by =
clicking
on the save button. This creates VEW files. If your query was made with =
Time
Span property of Historian View Tab set to Relative, every time you =
open
this file, it is going to give you the latest values.
I saw customers using Excel files with AIM* Excel add-in querying =
hundreds
of tags. Once this add-in is installed, every time Excel is opened, it =
tries
to connect to the AIM* server. That explains the slower opening Andr=E9
experienced and that is why you have to be careful if you use that on a
laptop.=20
Older versions of Excel are less stable. If you are using Excel 97, =
make
sure you apply Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2. If you are
experiencing problem with Excel, you may need to re-install it.
Have a nice day

Subject: [foxboro] AIM* Historian / Datalink
I have an AW51D (Solaris machine) and AIM*Historian running on Windows =
2000.
In order to gather historical data, I use the "Historian Browser" in
AIM*Datalink. This method is NOT time efficient because I am unable to =
save
a query and make adjustment to the query at a later time (e.g. change =
the
time range, sample frequency, and add/subtract points). =20
I followed Section 7 of the AIM*Datalink User's Manual (B0193YJ) to =
make use
of the Historian Wizard Excel Add-In to overcome the inefficiency of =
the
"Historian Browser". However, excel becomes very unstable (frequently
crashes) to the point that I have to remove the Add-In.
Has anyone had success with the Historian Wizard Excel Add-In?
Does anyone have a method to save a historian query so that you are =
able to
adjust the time range, sample frequency and add/subtract points at a =
later
time? I tried to use the AIM* ODBC features, but found that the =
queries are
extremely slow and the feature is also unstable.
