I have worked with the following, all Solaris based solutions, although the
Integrator 30s shouldn't care what type AW is on the other end.
1) ControlLogix -> DH+ module -> KF2 -> Integrator 30
Tell the Integrator that it's a PLC-5. Map tags in ControlLogix with a
PLC-5 emulation table and it works. Definately not state of the art, but I
believe you can get the redundant KF2s to work with this arrangement. Our
project did not use redundant KF2s, so I am not sure.
2) ControlLogix -> ControlNet -> KFC -> Integrator 30
You have to bpatch a file on the I/A side, but it works. Tell the
Integrator that it's a PLC-5. Map tags in ControlLogix with a PLC-5
emulation table and it works. Glen Bounds had some good write ups on the
email list about this in the past. I'm not sure if you can get redundant
KFCs to work. I seem to remember some issues around setting up redundant
control net nodes.
3) ControlLogix -> Ethernet -> AW51
You need Rockwell Software's Interchange Product and it has to be a
semi-recent version (definitely newer than 6.02). I think the folks at
General Mill's do this. We've done it in the lab, but never on a
production system because the AW must stay up all the time to do control
this way. It's not state of the art, but can handle a LOT more throughput
than the serial bottle neck of a KF[2,C] solution.
State of the art is using a new FBM200 series gateway, like Alan Weldon
mentioned. There is supposed to be one available that talks ethernet to AB
in the near future, but I am not sure when it will be officially
released. Actually I'm not even sure it's in Beta yet.
Maybe we'll see some AB communication stuff in San Antonio next month.

David Johnson
