I ran into this problem when adding commenting include files and subroutines. When I commented out the original subroutine call, the compiled code had the comments in the subroutine "embedded" in this new comment and the compilation failed every time. Clearly the compiler doesn't like comments within comments. I haven't tried different types of comments to see if some combinations work.
