Hi List,
All the guys with data processing in a unix & windows network should
check out the free available Windows Services for Unix.

Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 provides a full range of supported and
fully integrated cross-platform network services for enterprise
customers to use in integrating Windows into their existing UNIX-based
environments.

Feature Description=20
Robust Scripting Environment Work with a broad, familiar, and compatible
scripting environment with the built-in KornShell and C Shell
environments as well as Perl 5.6.0 compiled under Interix. In addition,
you no longer need to convert scripts to support drive letter syntax.
Unlike the KornShell provided in earlier versions of Windows Services
for UNIX, both shells use a single rooted file system. =20
Familiar UNIX Tools Use more than 300 UNIX utilities and tools
(conforming to the IEEE 1003.2-1992 standard) that work as they would on
UNIX systems, including awk, grep, sed, tr, cut, tar, cpio, and many
others.=20
Better Security Support Improve security and integration with existing
Network Information System (NIS) environments. The Server for NIS and
password synchronization components now support the use of MD5
encryption of passwords. Now it's easier to move from the inherently
insecure environment of PCNFS and instead use NIS for authentication of
NFS-based file system access. =20
Encryption Libraries Included Easily implement password synchronization
on platforms not included with the Windows Services for UNIX 3.5
distribution. Use the encryption libraries-now included-along with all
the source code for quick compilation and implementation.=20
Improved Internationalization Support Get better support for Korean and
Chinese character sets (EUC-KR, EUC-TW, CH-S/CH-T) in the NFS and Telnet
components.=20
=20
Increased Availability
Feature Description=20
Support for Clustering Get support for active-active NFS sharing from
the fully cluster-aware NFS Service. It is even possible to upgrade an
existing, non-clustered NFS share to a cluster NFS share resource.=20
Mapping Server Redundancy Now support a redundant pool of User Name
Mapping Servers and eliminate the possibility of a single point of
failure. Clients can fail over to the first available mapping server.
You can also implement security based on the trusted hosts model with
the .maphost file, now supported by the User Name Mapping Server.=20
Increased Component Scalability Get better component scalability thanks
to performance enhancements in:=20
Server for NIS. Server for NIS now handles up to 64,000 users.=20
Telnet. Both the Telnet client and server now support Internet Protocol
version 6 (IPv6) and address key security issues. Zone checking now
occurs before NTLM credentials are issued so that NTLM cannot be used
outside of the trusted zone.=20
User Mapping Server. The number of groups that an individual user can
belong to is now set dynamically instead of hard-coded to a maximum
limit. In addition, the User Name Mapping Server supports user names
with non-ASCII characters and is fully integrated with the Interix
subsystem.=20
=20
=20
Faster Performance
Feature Description=20
Better Performance Tuning Tune performance without having to reboot. Now
many performance-related registry keys are recognized dynamically,
making it practical to adjust settings under real-world conditions. =20
Faster NFS Client and Server Get a greater than 30 percent increase in
performance. Client for NFS now uses directory caching at the client,
significantly improving speed for the end user. In addition, the new
case sensitivity option of the mount command provides improved overall
performance against UNIX shares. =20
Faster NIS Server See a significant improvement in speed when using the
ypmatch command. =20
