[foxboro] What are the chances of using Modbus Integ 30 to communicate with AB SLC5xx?




Other than knowing there is probably a protocol difference, I do not know
much about the difference between Foxboro's Allen Bradley Integrator and
the Modbus Integrator.  Can someone answer a few questions for me.

First the Background:

We originally used Foxboro Modbus Integrator 30s to communicate with
several Fisher ROCs over radio communications.  This proved troublesome -
the thought being that when radio communications messed up enough, the
Modbus Integrator 30 did not know how to deal with it properly and would
end up locking up.  We are now thinking about installing an Allen Bradley
SLC5xx with Modbus communications and Prosoft card that is designed to talk
to Fisher ROCs over a radio link.  The Prosoft card will act as a master to
the ROCs to read or write values between the ROCs and the PLC.  We are then
hoping to be able to establish communications over a different port from a
Foxboro Modbus Integrator 30 to the SLC5xx via modbus to read or write the
same values between the PLC and Foxboro.  The link between Foxboro and the
PLC would be hard wired, we expect the PLC/Prosoft card combo to be more
forgiving with the radio communications and we expect that the PLC will
always have something in its registers for the Foxboro to read - even if it
is still only the previous older value.


The Questions:

We already have several Foxboro Modbus Integrators.  What chance do have in
being able to use the Modbus Integrator 30 to communicate with the Allen
Bradley SLC5xx in the manner described above?  Is there anything special
that we would need to know about?
