[foxboro] V8.x MESH and ATS MESH

Dear All,

Currently we have two systems as follow.

1) MESH network with I/A 8.x with star with ROOT switch (N7).
2) Legacy LAN with I/A 7.1.1. (27 nodes)

Both systems are not connected up till now.

I am in process of upgrading all CBLIs to ATS using STAR architecture which
will have another ROOT (N7) switch. Most of the CBLIs are located in remote
buildings.

At this stage I don¢t have access to the existing ROOT switch and that¢s the
reason considering another N7 ROOT for my ATS upgrade.

Once upgrade finished, down the road I want to connect both system together
which will eventually make double start architecture

I have following questions on this.

1) Any known issues with ATS?

2) I know that, I can have only one ROOT in the system. Can I reconfigure one
ROOT switch as a normal switch without disturbing any communications at the
time of connecting two ROOT switches?

3) What are the advantages of having double STAR architecture?

4) Documentation says that avoids using peer-to-peer connections across the
star in double start topology, are there any issues if we do this ( I may have
max 50 p2p)?

5) What are the advantages of VLAN?  Is it mandatory to have VLAN in MESH
network which will have around 50 edge switches?

6) Are there any known issues with ROOT switches / MESH which requires special
attention?

Appreciate any special comments/suggestions.

Best regards,

Harshad
