[foxboro] Using pref from user: ia/remote

Hey list,

When using the login username "ia" to startup remote display managers,
"pref" no longer works from VT100 sessions or shell scripts.
I have also tried the alternative "omset" to set the DMCMD global of the
display manager, with no luck there either.
Has anybody found a work-a-round?
