[foxboro] "Remote-draw" applications question

I am (finally) putting together my little how-to on setting up OpenSSH in
an I/A system (51-series; I just got an AW70, so that may come a little
later). I am using the X "tunneling" capability in OpenSSH, and everything
works fine except for the "remote-draw" applications like ICC.
In my case, the host AW is different from the one hosting the remote DMs
(and running the OpenSSH server daemon, sshd). Now, I thought that those
apps ran from the host AP/AW, sent display data (HIL format, IIRC) over
Foxboro IPC or some other proprietary channel to the client WP/AP/AW, and a
shim layer on the client converted the HIL to X commands. However, that's
apparently not the case, as ICC is not honoring my $DISPLAY variable (set
by sshd when you log in to a dynamically determined X display number on the
ICC client/sshd server AW, e.g., localhost:10).
So, if anyone could give me a quick summary of how remote-draw data gets
from the host AW to the X server, I'd be grateful. Specifically, I'd like
to know the transports involved, and how the $DISPLAY is gleaned byt the
remote-draw app. This will help me determine the best way to solve my
tunneling problem.
Thanks,
Corey Clingo
