Hi list,
I need to move an AW70 (very old one, Pentium 300 Mhz running I/A NT Nodebus
6.5.1) from its current location (close to the I/A system cabinet) to a room
some 60 m away. The AW connects to the nodebus through a DNBI interface. As
Idon't have a thicknet (AUI) cable long enough, I will replace the DNBI with
a DNBT.
I have a working set of DNBT+cables (tested in a separate system). Before
moving the AW, I made a test to make sure the new configuration would work.
BUT IT DIDN'T!!!!
This is how I proceeded:
1 - I configured the Nodebus NIC (3Com Etherlink III - ISA) with media type
10Base T (It was previously configured with Thicknet-AUI). I have a second
ethernet card, a 3Com Etherlink XL PCI, connected to the maintenance
ethernetnetwork.
2 - Rebooted the AW, with the new cables and DNBT (with proper letterbug)
installed
After this, the nodbus never came up again. I rebooted the DNBT and the AW a
couple of times with no result. As a bonus, the second card didn't link to
the ethernet network either.
I made the same test with a second set of cables+DNBT, with the same result.
The "Nodebus Activity" "TP Activity" and "Link" leds of the DNBT were off
all the time. The module helth green led was on and the red one was off.
I know that my cables are OK and my DNBT is OK. I know that I connected the
DNBT to the correct NIC. I can only think I have a configuration problem
(should I recommit? I think not...., the DNBx's are level converters only,
according to Foxboro)
So I changed my NIC configuration back to AUI, reinstalled the DNBI and
rebooted. After that the system was up and running again..... except for the
second NIC, that never worked again....
I think maybe my second NIC was damaged in the process......
Has anybody had a similar problem?.....
