[foxboro] RE : Lost+Found

Mike,

Try this procedure but make absolutely sure that you do not lose good data.

The Foxboro Unix based IA will only install on certain hard drives. Some of
these hard drives are no longer available on the market. You can purchase a
larger sized hard drive of the same type and re-size it down to one of the
Foxboro type of hard drives.

For example:

Foxboro Standard Non-Foxboro

Seagate ST38410A Seagate ST39140A

8.1 G Byte 9.1 G Byte

16706 cyln 17760

16 head 16

63 sect. / trk 63

7200 rpm 7200

On AW51D, connect the Foxboro standard drive as the Primary Master IDE (middle
ribbon cable). Connect the Non-Foxboro (target ) drive as the Secondary Master
(cable near power connector)

Power on the computer and hit "STOP + A" when the white screen appears. Type

probe-ide (ensure that the Primary Master is the Fox standard and the target
is Secondary Master)

boot -rs

Foxboro standard drive)

This makes the 9.1 GB drive appear to be a Foxboro standard 8.1 GB drive and
you may now create a Day0 hard drive or you can restore a tape made from and
existing 8.1 GB drive where you want to use this drive as a replacement.

You may need a copy of the latest Foxboro floppy diskette (K0175SN) to get the
information for the current list of supported hard drives.

If you perform a Day0 software installation you need to carefully read and
understand the Foxboro documentation as reboots of control processors may be
required which can mandate a shutdown of your process.

Regards,

Terry

Terry:
Thanks, Terry. I remember trying this before, but it wouldn't take. Doing
a little web surfing, everyone said that it couldn't be done. Maybe I
simply didn't do it correctly. We replaced a hard disk for an AW51B with
a Seagate (same exact model as the original Sun, but different label). We
ended up modifying the installation script to get it to work.

Jim:

So I guess that you can use any hard disk, but if you're not familiar with
the Unix format utility, go for the Sun disk.
