[foxboro] Foxboro docs (was: remote screen updates slowly)

I'm afraid I'm still stuck on Windows Explorer, mostly out of ignorance I
guess, but usually because I know what document I need to go look in. But
I'll check out some of these other tools.

What I'm more interested in is a (semi-)automatic update mechanism for
these doc files. I haven't taken the time to write a script to use wget
or something to poll the CSC site looking for updates. Ideally it would
work like rsync, checking and then downloading only newer files, but I
don't know if any of the HTML-downloader tools will do that.

Re: [foxboro] Remote Exceed screen Updates slowly

You are welcome.

Since RTFM (Read the Foxboro Manual) is tough given how many of them
there are, I thought I might mention a tool that I really love. It makes
answering questions a lot easier.

I keep copies of our documents (not all but a lot) on my laptop and I
use X1 to index my hard drive. X1 is incredible.

It gives a very high density display (think spreadsheet with a row for
each item and column for fields related to the item) and offers great
searching and filtering tools. Plus, it's preview capability is amazing.
It handles hundreds of file times in its preview pane.

I got it back when it was free as Yahoo Desktop Search, but I can tell
you that I'd pay the $50 USD of my own money if I had to do so to get it
for the next machine. You can see it here - http://www.x1.com.

There is a similar (and free) tool called Copernic that one friend of
mine likes better, but I really prefer X1's HMI. Copernic is here -
http://www.copernic.com.

I've used Google's desktop search, but it does not compare. Given its
low density display, lack of filtering, and no preview capability.

Is anyone else using these or similar tools?
