[foxboro] FW: LINE PRINTER REPLACEMENT - Updated List 2

Off-list, I received a correction (about Serial32) and some other
interesting information. The writer said:

There are 2 or 3 on your list that are in the 700 $ ball park=20
and the remaining seem to be in the 8 - 10k$ range and give one
full blown Alarm statistics of the EEMUA type.=20

My refinery already had one of those products running very=20
successfully for about three years and the paper remained as=20
the Operator's "safety net". But for the past two years, the=20
paper has been just piling up and thrown immediately into the=20
   recycle bin.=20

As you point out, about 3000 $ per year per printer. We put in one
cheap computer with this cheap software shared between two node
(Alarm Printers) and after the 2000 $ setup cost, we hope to save
   4 grand the first year!

I point this out because it shows two important points:

1) Printers are expensive. If you have a few, you could lay them off and
hire someone that does something useful.
2) Alarm management software is pretty darn competent these days.

Re: Use a package like LogMate from TiPS (there are a million of them)
that can replace the printer and store the data on a PC.

I may have exaggerated slightly, but the list is now up to:

 1) AIM*Historian and AIM*Inform
 2) Plant State Suite from PAS (commonly used by our Alm Mgmt Svcs grp)
 3) Logmate from TIPS (pretty common in the states)
 4) IMAC from ICS (pretty common in EMEA)
 5) ProcessGuard from Matrikon
 6) HAWK from PCS
 7) AlarmsOnLine2 from Ingolf Schulte
 8) Serial32 from Serial32
 9) AlarmLogger from Machine Automation
10) Visual Alert from Erus
11) Slumberjack from Corey Clingo :)

The ones that I know are specifically for alarm analysis and support the
EMUA Alarm Standard are:

1) Plant State Suite by PAS
2) Logmate by TIPS
3) ProcessGuard from Matrikon
4) IMAC from ICS

I know that PSS has an interface to AIM*Historian. I'm sure that others
do as well.
