Regarding the RPC patch for various flavors of Windows, has anybody
downloaded and applied the patch directly from the MS web site? What's =
your
experience?
On the flip side of the coin, has anybody ordered and received the =
patch CD
(alluded to in the following advisory) from Invensys?
Thanks!
Duc

Importance: High
Customer Advisory
I/A Series=AE Security Patches
August 29, 2003
As a follow up to an earlier advisory on System Security, we are now =
able to
advise that we have concluded the validation of the Microsoft=AE RPC =
Security
Patches and their compatibility with I/A Series Windows-based stations. =
The
patches will be available for each of the three Microsoft operating =
systems:
=20
* Windows NT 4.0=AE=20
* Windows XP=AE Professional
* Terminal Server=AE
These patches have been validated on the following platforms:
I/A Workstations Hardware Platform Microsoft OS I/A
Version =09
AW70CP GX340 w/ctrl Windows XP 7.1=20
AW70P GX340 Windows XP 7.1 =09
WP70P GX340 Windows XP 7.1=20
AW70X PE2500 w/ctrl Terminal Server 6.5.1
AW70X GX240 IDE w/ctrl Windows NT 4.0 6.5.1 =09
AW70X GX1 450MHz w/ctrl Windows NT 4.0 6.5.1 =09
AW70X GX200 w/ctrl Windows NT 4.0 6.5=20
AW70X PE2400 w/ctrl Terminal Server 6.4 =09
WP70 GX1 450MHz Windows NT 4.0 6.4
AW70 GX1 450MHz Windows NT 4.0 6.4=09
*** It can be assumed that validation on the AW70X also =3D AW70/WP70 =
on
those platforms.=09
=09
The patches are undergoing validation testing on I/A release V6.1.x, =
V6.2.x
and V6.3. We will issue an update regarding the validation status of =
these
versions shortly.
The patches and associated documentation to install these patches will =
be
available on separate CD's for each Microsoft operating system. Each CD =
will
have a kit number to allow them to be ordered from your local service
operation.
Important Considerations
When applying these patches, it is very important that the station =
being
updated is completely disconnected from the Internet. Certain features =
in
the various Windows operating systems may try to overwrite these tested
patches with a revised version. This revision potential is beyond =
Invensys'
control. These potential updates will not have been evaluated and
compatibility with I/A Series cannot be assured. Also, when updating =
any
station, a backup is highly recommended. In particular, use of the =
Windows
XP 'Restore' function may not be reliable enough to recover in the =
event of
an update error or failure to complete the update.
System Requirements
These updates impose certain requirements on the I/A Series Stations. =
They
require about 200 MB of free disk space on the system volume and a =
minimum
hardware support:
=20
* Dell(tm) Model GX1 450 MHz station for Windows NT 4.0 SP6a
* Dell Model G340 for Windows XP
* Dell Model P2400 for Terminal Server
