Add another; Realtime solutions has a great package "Control Database
archive. In our system, the alarms are captured as a compound group
device, stored in MSSQL and accessed via a web based client. Operator
actions and control configuration data is also stored in the same
database which allows for operator actions to be interleaved with
process alarms and block descriptions - great for incident
investigations, and MOC style tracking for control configuration
changes.
Stay warm :-)

And lets not forget our old friend Bo Steer from 2TSI. They have a
simple, yet effective alarm printer replacement. I can't remember the
name of it at the moment..., probably because it's after midnight here.

I have seen most of the ones listed here and I must agree that PAS and
Logmate are the most robust. PAS does so much more than the printer
replacement though. If you want something that everyone can
use(engineers, operations, managers), go for PAS. It also handles Loop
tuning and categorizes all of the alarms.

Commercial over. Hey, I didn't even get lunch!

In the interest of fair disclosure, I just had lunch with Eddie Habibi,
President and Founder of PAS, and he gently reminded me that there is
another that should be on the list. :-)
So, in exchange for lunch and an interesting conversation, here's a new
compilation. Accusations of corruption will be filed properly (in my
Deleted folder). :-)
Re: Use a package like LogMate from TiPS (there are a million of
them) that can replace the printer and store the data on a PC.
I may have exaggerated slightly, but the list is now up to:
1) AIM*Historian and AIM*Inform
2) Plant State Suite from PAS (used commonly in our Alarm Mgmt Svc)
3) Logmate from TIPS (pretty common in the states)
4) IMAC from ICS(pretty common in EMEA)
5) HAWK from PCS
6) AlarmsOnLine2 from Ingolf Schulte
And you really haven't started looking yet.
There are lots of these "out there."

Hi Pablo,
This problem is solved by AlarmsOnline2. This software receives the
alarm=3D3D
s over the serial line. You replace simply the serial printer by a PC
wit=3D3D
h AlarmsOnline2. The alarms are collected in a data base. The software
ha=3D3D
s a Web interface. Administer, print out, search and filter of the
alarms=3D3D
needs only the Internet Explorer / Firefox ....=3D3D20

Betreff: [foxboro] LINE PRINTER REPLACEMENT
=3D3D20
Hi everybody,=3D3D20
I would like to replace our alarm line-printers with something that I
don=3D3D
't
have to keep repairing.... like a laser printer.=3D3D20
I am aware of the difference between line and page printers, so I am
look=3D3D
ing
for some piece of hardware that buffers the lines until a page completes
=3D3D
and
then sends it to the laser printer. A valuable additional feature would
b=3D3D
e
the possibility of retrieving a history file from the device on a
separat=3D3D
e
port......=3D3D20
I've been looking in the Internet but have found nothing like
this.....=3D3D20
Other possibiliy I am studying is to configure the alarm printer in
COM1,
connect COM1 to COM2 with a null-modem cable, write a program that reads
COM2and buffers the lines until it completes a page and then sends the
pa=3D3D
ge
to a laser printer connected to LPT1.....=3D3D20
Any ideas?=3D3D20
