Annunciator Keyboard Silencing the Horn
potential problem:
The Alarm Alert subsystem allows the user to configure whether or not =
the horn is silenced when an annunciator key is pressed. If the global =
ACK_HORN=3DN is defined in the /usr/fox/wp/bin/data/init.user file, =
when an operator presses an annunciator key when the horn is sounding, =
the horn is not silenced. If the global is not defined, pressing an =
annunciator key continues to silence the horn. The problem is that an =
operator could unintentional silence the horn while calling up a =
display. The operator would believe that his colleague manages the =
alarm and all is prepared for a plant shutdown. Two different =
functions (silence a horn and calling up a display) are mixed.=20
What you need to do:
1. Edit init.user (copy from init.user.rel if init.user does not exist).
2. Add the following to the end of the file:
ACK_HORN=3DN
By default if ACK_HORN is not defined or defined as "Y" horns will be
silence by pressing any annunciator key. Setting this to "N" will only
silence the horns when the horn silence button ("ACK") is pressed on the
annunciator keyboard.
One further note for those of you using FoxPanels. This only works with
annunciator keyboards and does not work with FoxPanels.
some definitions:
The issue here is horn silencing not alarm acknowledgement.
Alarms (actually blocks) are acknowledged only once and that is done by =
executing the alarm acknowledge command (or reseting the .UNACK =
parameter which is the same thing).
Alarms are not acknowledged by pressing the "the red (the one with the =
little red trumpet on it) button". That button only silences the =
horns. The horn will need to be silenced on each WP unless common alarm =
group is =3D
used.
A single alarm will cause the horn to sound only once. If the horn =
resounds, a new alarm has arrived (or there is a defect somewhere).
Regards,
Andreas
