[foxboro] [ADMIN] A request for summaries and/or solutions

Hi list,

I am taking advantage of a slow Friday afternoon on the list to make a
simple request.

Since the objective of this list is for users to help users, there is,
naturally, a lot of gives and takes -- knowledgeable people give advices and
ideas to help those with questions or problems. And all of us benefit by
taking what's offered freely here on the list to use in our own situations.
I strongly encourage those who directly benefit from advices given on this
list to give something back: by posting a summary of your solution(s) so
that we have an archive of what work and what don't.

Of course, not everything will be solved in a cut-and-dried fashion, and
many things cannot be neatly summarized, but let me offer a simple case of a
recent question. There was a question posed nearly a week ago about
deciphering error code from a sequence block. Many people weighed in with
advices, tips, and hints, and in the process many of us learned a thing or
two new about the system. But without a report back from the original poster
to state what finally solved the problem for him, six months or two years
from now we can go through the same routine again, without the benefit of
knowing what was helpful the first time.

This needs not be anything elaborate. Doug Lloyd offered a simple
one-paragraph follow-up on his RBatch II question to state what worked for
him (Thanks, Doug!). Now that his solution is archived on the mailing list,
the next user with a similar question can search the archive and come up
with the solution without having to rehash the situation again.

This request is certainly not meant to throttle questions on the list. We
all learn from the on-going discourse, but it improves the effectiveness of
the list to have follow-ups to questions for the searchable archive.

What do you all say? On second thought, don't everybody answer on the list
at once. Just send in your summaries as your affirmative votes.

Thanks, and good luck!

Duc
