Dean, i believe you are right. We need a consorted effort of working
stiffs and retired peoples. i hope we can get a core group that can
co-ordinate the others. If we work at this, it could be a ham community
project, and not looked at as a "this" group or "that" group thing.
these are tools we have to offer to supported groups, and help others
learn how to do it themselves.

It is down. Not surewhy, but it does not seem to be powering up. There is
power at the injector. Imay have to climb the tower to check on it. I
cannot even guess at when or how that might happen.Â
Â
I suspect that the interest level overall in Hamnet has not waned all
thatmuch.
Â
I could write a short story about the details behind thereasons that I think
that we have seen little traction in getting this stuffgoing. I will not
bore you all with thestory(s).
Â
The basic points as I see them (my opinions) –
Â
In East Central Florida we have a number of “shovel readyAmateur Radio
projects, however we do not have the needed manpower. There are Repeaters,
Hamnet equipment, Packetequipment, etc… sitting around gathering dust
because the people who have triedto finish up those installations are too
busy to deal with all of thedetails. They are mostly working stiffslike me
who do not have time to deal with all of the other non-technical issuesthat
these installations typically require. Some of these issues include access
to antenna sites (agreements orrelationships may have changed), coordinating
with other parties that we do nothave control over and who do not share our
sense of urgency or sequence, evangelizingwith clubs regarding the potential
benefits so that maybe they might stopputting these projects on the back
burner in hopes that some other club mightdo them instead. I could go on,
but thatis enough for now.
Â
I think that the solution is that we need a force of retiredfolks who are
willing and able to go do the things that we working stiffs donot have the
bandwidth for. Thisincludes continually badgering some lazy hams until they
either submit to ourwishes, or get out of the way. I have noproblem being
that guy, but I have so little time available that I am only ableto annoy a
few people at any given time.Â
Â
I have seen before where retired folks stepped up and lent ahand, however
there have been some problems. They get frustrated that those “young
working guys are trying to makethis too complicated, so they barge forward
and get the job done theirway. Unfortunately then we see solutionsthat are
not done well. So if we can geta bunch of retired folks to help with these
things, then they have to bewilling to do things our way. Many of usworking
stiffs use some of these technologies in our jobs and we know howthings
should be done.Â
Â
Bottom line, I do not see much being accomplished unless wecan swell the
ranks of worker bees. I amnot sure how to do that.Â
Â
ThanksÂ

Subject: [FL-HSMM-Mesh] HSMM reboot/seeking input, long post.
Hello everyone,
There has been a renewed interest in HSMM. I am sorry it has been some
time since there was activity. It got pushed to the back burnner due to other
projects, that is my fault.
So, there has been interest shown in getting things started again. Karl
aa4mi, Ben w4qed, and JC nt4k, have expressed interest in making things
happen.
(1)Â I want to find out who still has a node on the air?
(2) Who is interested in getting a node on the air?
(3) Who is interested in getting a node tunneled to other nodes?
__________________________
Currently the short term goals as of this minute.
(1) To get a group active.
(2) linked nodes thru tunneling.
(3) Assist LMARS members to design and set up a mesh net, 1. To network
logging software. 2. Demonstrate HSMM with a few web cams
